Welcome to the Young Handler Class:
This class was introduced in 2021 and proved very popular as we have several under 18’s who are very keen to have a go at showing goats but have no way of getting to live shows as they often take place during the week in term-times.
We haven’t insisted on the correct “Show Attire”, but instead are laying the emphasis more on handling of the goats, and how successful the young handler is at getting the goat to do what is required for this class.
For some participants, this was their first experience of trying to walk a goat and the concept of actually showing a goat a strange thing to want to do. What they don’t yet know is, there are plans at foot to get them to a real show next year and the online show is a great place to start building confidence.
For judging, each competitor has been asked to do the following:
Walk the goat away from the camera, turn to give a side view of the goat walking, and then walk back to the camera and finish with the goat standing correctly, either facing or side on to the camera. The Young Handler then has to answer the following questions:
Their name, age and the herd they are representing
Name of the goat, age and their reason for selecting the goat for the competition
What they most like about English goats
This class have been divided into an “Under 10” category, a “Ten and Over” Category and, new for this year, a “Novice Handler” Category for anyone over the age of 18.
