Welcome to the EGBA 2026 National Online Show
Our online shows have proved very popular since we introduced them during the pandemic with both members and supporters of English goats, so we now seem to be holding them every year, adding in as many of the suggestions made by our members as possible.
We have actually exceeded last year’s phenomenal entry of 115 goats from twenty four herds: This year, we can proudly show you the largest online goat show we have ever presented with twenty nine herds entering one hundred and nineteen goats in total - that’s nearly 30% of our national stock. All pictures of goats in Classes 1, 2 and 3 had to be taken during the month of July with entries in Class 4 being taken at any time.
Our classes include goats from throughout the UK - from the Highlands of Scotland (where the grass is green) into the valleys of Wales, through the Pennines, over to the east of England (where there is no grass at all), down along the south coast of England and into the far reaches of Cornwall. These goats would simply not be able to stand side by side in a real show ring, so our online show has the advantage of showcasing the many unique markings of English goats whilst every single one adheres to the breed standard.
We now hand over to our very brave judge, Callum Williams, to judge what has become a rather prestigious online show in the goat world. His final task will be to select the Best and Reserve Best Female Goats, the Best and Reserve Best Male Goats and from those final four choose his Champion and Reserve Champion for the 2026 Online Show.
The Champion will feature on the cover of the English Goat Breeders Association 2026 Year and Herd Book. Copies of this are lodged in the National Archives, so the Champion’s picture will be on public record for ever.

Female Classes
Class 1a, Female Kid has been split into three sub classes as it was so large.
Class 1a Female Kid, born between 13/02/2026 and 03/03/2026.
Class 1aa Female Kid, born between 04/03/2026 and 26/03/2026.
Class 1aaa Female Kid, born after 26/03/2026.
Class 1b Female Goatling, between 1 and 2 years old, not having kidded.
Class 1c Female, under 3 years old, first kidder, having kidded this year.
Class 1d Female, under 7 years old, second kidder and older, having kidded this year.
Class 1e Female, under 7 years old, not having kidded this year.
Class 1f Female, veteran, over 7 years old, state whether has kidded this year.
Male Classes
Class 2a Male kid, over 2 months and under 1 year old.
Class 2b Male Buckling, between 1 and 2 years old.
Class 2c Male, over 2 years old.
wether Classes
Class 3a Wether kid, over 2 months and under 1 year old.
Class 3b Wether over 1 years old.
Fun Classes
Fun Classes – in these classes we’re looking primarily for a good photograph, so only one photograph will be required per class. These photos do not have to be taken during July.
Young Handler Classes
Young Handler - Under 10, 10 and Over, and Novice Handler
The Rules:
1. The competition is only open to EGBA Members.
2. The competition is only open to EGBA registered/registerable goats (except the wether class in which at least one parent must be a registered English Goat).
3. All goats registered with EGBA during July will be automatically entered in their appropriate class.
4. Competition entries must be received by the Secretary no later than 10pm, 31st July 2026.
5. The Judges word is Final.
6. Goats photographed must be in the ownership of the competitor.
7. Photographs and video footage to be taken after the competition opens (1st July 2026). These must be in focus and we need a minimum of four photographs as follows (except for Fun Classes):
· One from each side.
· One from the front, clearly showing leg, chest and head markings.
· One from the rear, clearly showing hind leg conformation, dorsal stripe, and udder in females and testicles in males.
· The head to be featured side and front in any of the photographs, but if it is not clear, to include another photograph featuring the head.
Young Handler – The Young Handler Class will require a short video, showing the handler walking the goat away from the camera, turning to give a side view of the goat walking, and then walking back to the camera and finishing with the goat hopefully standing correctly, facing the camera. The Young Handler will then have to answer the following questions:
Their name and age, and which herd they are representing.
Name of goat, age and reason for selecting the goat for the competition (such as most friendly)
What they like the most about English goats
NB. By entering this class you are permitting EGBA to post the video footage on our website www.egba.org.uk for public viewing.
